Travel is very important to me. You can make great memories without spending a lot of money. I’ve been told that sometimes I can be a little bougie when it comes to travel but just because I’m picky doesn’t mean that I don’t like to save money. I always try to find the best options, whether I’m doing couples travel, or traveling with the kids. I put together a list that always helps me no matter where I go.
Here are 10 Money Saving Travel Hacks that will be sure to help save you some $$.
- Choose All Inclusive
Okay so if you know me you know that I like to go to resorts that are all inclusive. I like this because you pay one price and that’s it. Once you get there you don’t have to worry about your meals or drinks. You can literally go to a restaurant, eat, leave and go to another without having to worry about the bill. You can have drinks by the pool at no extra cost.
2. Create A Budget
Once you figure out where you want to go see if it fits within your budget. When I first started traveling, I did not have a budget ,and spent way too much. It’s important to have a budget and stick to it and to keep track of what you spend. There are many budget tracking apps that can help you out a lot.
3. Stay At Places That Have Washers/Dryers
So when I’m traveling with the kids out of town I try to stay where the washer and dryer are in the unit. You know kids can get pretty messy and more it’s convenient. I also don’t have to worry about paying for a laundry service. There are many resorts that have washers and dryers in the units. You can also check out Airbnb or VRBO to see what kind of places you can stay in that have this.
4. Cook Your Own Meals
We just came back from Fort Walton Beach and we stayed in a fully stocked condo with cookware and dishes. We stopped at the store, picked up some food, and for breakfast I cooked everyday, and it saved us a lot of money.
5. Take Advantage of the Free Breakfast
Some places will have full free breakfast like Embassy Suites or complimentary free breakfast. I never turn down anything free. LOL Sometimes it’s 7 of us traveling together so free breakfast is pretty nice!
6. Use Free Soap/Shampoo
This definitely comes in handy when you forget to bring your soap and keeps you from having to buy some to bring.
7. Book your trips in advance
Don’t wait till the last minute to book your trip. The closer you get the more it costs. I definitely learned this the hard way.
8. Don’t Over Pack
If you’re flying over packing will just create extra baggage fees. The first time I traveled to Jamaica, I didn’t do any research, so I didn’t know what to take, and I overpacked. I had to pack extra for my bags. It was an extra expense that I could have avoided if I had packed lighter.
9. Do Your Research
Do your research and plan ahead. Once you start planning your trip and know where you want to go you can figure out your budget. I recommend checking different sites so you can get the best rates. Again, the longer you wait the more expensive everything can get.
10. Don’t Travel During Peak Season
When you travel during off peak season you will save so much. The prices are more costly during peak season. Look at the prices for travel in March and October and compare them. You will surely see what I mean. It also won’t be as crowded. I don’t know about you but with everything going on in the world now, I’m not to crazy about big crowds.

Great tips! I especially like the one about staying at a place with a washer and dryer! I have an infant son and as I am sure you know, washing is a constant! Even given that though, I never thought about ensuring to have a washer/dryer when traveling. I mean he will likely be a bit older when we finally take him on a trip, but I don’t foresee the need to wash diminishing any time soon!

Great tips! If we’re staying at a vacation rental we always try to cook a few meals instead of eating out. It doesn’t always work out but we try. Also like the tip about not overpacking. We did that for a long time and have learned to take less.
