On this day 20 years ago, my brothers and I were all sitting in front of the tv and listening to the Over The Edge Pay Per View that WWF was having. We couldn’t see it clearly and we could only hear it because we didn’t order it.
We were so confused when we heard Jim Ross announce that Owen Hart had died. The next day at school all the wrestling fans were talking about it. I still somehow didn’t believe it. We did our usual tune in to the Monday Night Wars and that was when I saw it was true. These big huge men, who are so tough every week on tv, were all crying. I was 12 and for some reason I didn’t think they were able to cry. Then I saw Mark Henry and the Big Show cry, I knew it was real.
Owen Hart is the only wrestler I’ve never heard anything bad about. Everyone literally has only good things to say about him. That lets you know what kind of person he was. He was a really good wrestler who comes from a wrestling family.
May 23rd will always be one of the saddest days in wrestling to me. It was my first sad experience in wrestling. I’m thinking of his wife, kids, and family today. RIP Owen Hart. Twenty years later and we haven’t forgotten you.

I wasn’t really into wrestling until recently, but my boyfriend has shown me both that episode, and told me all about it. Always so sad 😔

I don’t watch as much as I used too and yes it’s really sad.
