Update as of: 09/23/2020 You are only going to get tested if they have concerns and if you answer yes to certain questions. Everyone will not get tested upon arrival.
Hey everyone! It’s crazy that all of this is going on right now right? Let’s face it though this might be our new norm for travel to other countries. I know some would love to travel but are unaware of what you need to do to prepare. Here are some tips and requirements if you plan on traveling to Jamaica during this time.
First let me say that starting July 10th and after, all travelers from New York, Florida, Arizona and Texas in the USA will be required to upload a negative Covid-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test result. The date of the test must be within 10 days of the arrival date in order to obtain a Travel Authorization. You can find the info on that here : https://www.visitjamaica.com/travelauthorization/
Before you go: Make sure you stay updated. You also have to fill out the travel authorization.
What is the Travel Authorization? The Travel Authorization is a requirement of the Government of Jamaica issued to everyone intending to travel to the island. An approved Travel Authorization is issued after satisfactory completion of a health risk assessment.
I would print a copy of my approved travel authorization form and screenshot it just in case, because you cannot travel there without it. You can apply for it three days before your arrival.
Everyone who will be traveling to Jamaica for vacation purposes will go through immigration, baggage claim, customs and then be tested . After testing you will wait for your transportation and stay at your hotel until you receive your results. If you test positive you will be moved to quarantine. You also won’t be able to leave Jamaica until you get a negative result. Results will be available in 48 hours.
You will be required to wear a mask except for at restaurants and pools. I know you are probably wondering where I received all of this info. I am a Jamaica Travel Specialist and received all of this information from a webinar I attended. I also check for updates.
If you plan on going there I think you can still enjoy yourself but there will always be that risk.
Would I travel to Jamaica right now? Probably not. I hope to go next year though.
Do you plan on traveling anywhere this year? Where will you go?

Thanks for being so informative! Some of the information I didn’t even know. I’d love to go to Jamaica once things settle down a bit ☺️🏝

Me too. I hope things settle down soon.

It is interesting to learn what other countries are doing to keep living as normal as possible and as safe as possible. Who pays for the test? The tourist or the Jamaican government? Just curious as I think it would have been a good idea to have a similar protocol in Spain.
Alicia Jones
I was told that the tourist paid for the test. I know a girl who just came from from Ocho Rios and they didn’t even test her. Thanks for stopping by!

I don’t know if I would go with these circumstances. I hope things lighten up soon!

Are the states mentioned in your article still the only states that have to get tested? What about other states? Do they not have to get tested? Do they have to get tested now (2 months after you wrote the article)? Are they not allowed to go at all? I’m from a different state, if you couldn’t tell. Haha
Alicia Jones
Now they will only test you if they have concerns. At first I was told that everyone would get tested but that’s not the case. Thank you so much for reading.
